Struan Robertson biography

Photo of Struan Robertson

Struan Robertson volunteers his legal advice and proofreading skills to the AAP.

Although he started his career as a corporate lawyer, he's always been enthusiastic about IT. He tried to program his Spectrum in the early 1980s, built his first website in 1996, then struggled through a Java evening class in 1999. By his own admission, none of these coding endeavours displayed any talent.

He became hooked by web accessibility and usability in 2000 after seeing a presentation on the difference these qualities had made to an e-commerce process.

As well as helping clients with the laws on web accessibility, Struan writes and speaks about the subject regularly.

Struan also advises on the legal issues surrounding e-commerce, intellectual property, data protection, domain names, online crime and security and software licensing.

Struan is a technology lawyer for Pinsent Masons, and since 2000 has been editor of its popular legal information website, out-law.com. He is also a member of the Usability Professionals Association.
